Ah, the holidays.

Happy Turkey/Tofurkey/Turducken/etc. day. I personally am not a huge fan of Thanksgiving, being a vegetarian. And I’m not a huge fan of most of my extended family. That makes me sound like a terrible wretch, I know. But a. I can hardly eat anything that ends up being served and b. one side of my extended family is, how to put t…colorful? dysfunctional is more like it. Which results in jibes at my hair, among other things. Tons o’fun. Anyways, today went relatively uneventfully, thank god. I found out I’m descended from royalty hahaha. I started talking to my mom about borrowing her genealogy records so that I could find some more information out about my native ancestry, and my grandpa overheard and started talking about some new software he’d been using that had helped him find out all kinds of stuff. Apparently, I am a direct descendant of Magnus the barefoot king of Norway, as well as Alexander the Great waythefuckbackthere. Pretty neat, eh?

Right now I’m just sitting on my couch flipping through Black Friday ads. I am planning on shopping tomorrow even though it is the evil consumerist holiday, because I am le cheap and if I can get something I want for 75%, by god, I’m going to do it. I refuse to go at like, four am or anything though. Alicia’s picking me up at 8:30. The main thing I’m looking for is a coat, I’ve been scouring the internet to get some idea of things I like so I can quickly sift through sales racks. These are some of the things I’ve seen that I like:

Graphite Trench at ModCloth.com

The Marne Trench in Teal at ModCloth.com

Love Story in Plaid at ModCloth.com

Totally LOVE that one. The plaid is great, the cut is great, the colors are great. That will probably be something I buy within the next month or two.

The Astor Trench at ModCloth.com

You wouldn’t even need to plan an outfit if you were wearing that coat! Just wear some backseam stockings and cream heels and you’re good to go!

And Forever 21 has quite a few coats that have some wool content and are VERY reasonably priced:

That coat also comes in a bright blue:

In my internet wanderings, I also found plasticland.com. Where I didn’t find many cute coats, but I did find some awesome t-shirts.

and these dresses:

It says sparrow dress on the website, but that’s totally a swallow, so I corrected it for them.

Houndstooth Claudette Dresss by EC Star at Plasticland.com

and as far as trying to find a retro-inspired nightgown, the closest I’ve come is this:

Drop Waist Nightie

Drop Waist Nightie at VictoriasSecret.com

Which is not quite what I was looking for, sigh.

Wow, after unloading all that I really feel like a consumer whore, haha.

As I mentioned in the other post, I sent the Guess Borda back. I was REALLY peeved when I found out that it would probably take TWO WEEKS to get my refund. So I said screw it, if it’s going to take that long to get my money back I’ll just exchange them. Which I did, for the Sofft Gillian, which will be here tomorrow. And the leftover $15 should be in my account by tomorrow or Saturday, which says to me that there is no reason a refund should take two weeks. But whatever. Cute shoes my way. I should also get the Hard Candy makeup tomorrow, and hopefully the Tryst bracelet! At any rate, I’ll be back later with a TILT post. Right now, I’m still flipping through the ads.

the rollercoaster that was my weekend

that’s a bit of an exaggeration, most of the roller coaster was yesterday after I got off work. Without getting into most of the icky details, it involved Matt’s phone not going off when he laid down to take a nap, me not getting picked up from work and the security guard making me stand out in the cold because I was off hours and also being rather hysterical thinking Matt was in the hospital somewhere. And THEN the same security guard told Matt I had left a long time ago when I was sitting in the nail salon that was the next building over, waiting for my mom to give me a ride home. So he thought I had started walking home, drove around and couldn’t find me, and then was at home thinking that I was in a gutter somewhere or something. Suffice it to say, lots of stress. And then this morning I woke up to find that my alarm did not go off and I couldn’t call into work and explain to them (the phone systems are shut off on the weekends); so I just stayed home because my voice is nearly gone anyways and by the time I got there I would have been two hours late.

Anyways, here’s my outfit for the day:

Cloche made by me, scarf, shirt, and jeans from HT (I am quite the corporate whore today, apparently!), necklace by sweetheartsinner on Etsy, boots by Two Lips, secondhand faux fur coat.

I emailed Sal of Already Pretty (which is an awesome blog that I would suggest you go check out) with a question about viewing hair color as an accessory and incorporating it into outfits. It’s an interesting idea to me and not something often talked about in the blogosphere, most likely because most people don’t have to worry about their pink hair clashing with red in their outfit or the like. Which, by the way, I think is total BS and that depending on the shades pink and red look delicious together. Anyways, I won’t divulge all of what she said (although I will link to it, when she posts it) but one idea she had was wearing as much hair accessories as possible. This fits perfectly with my mention the other day of how I think from now on I’ll probably end up spending more or at the least just as much on accessories as I do on clothes, because now I have the basics of a good wardrobe (still lacking some things, of course, but they will be acquired!) that suits my needs, and feel under-accessorized. Mostly, I’ve been looking at fascinators and similar accessories - I will probably look into hair scarves and just plain clips as well, but I love fascinators. So over the top and glamorous and reminds me of one of my favorite eras, the ’20s. I tried to stick to fairly neutral colors so that I can wear them whatever color my hair is (I am so psyched about going pink and blue!) and I was mostly successful, I think. Here’s some of my favorites out of the ones I looked at, as usual, the pictures are clickable.

Soooo not neutral, but SO PRETTY. Alas, it is on a headband, which usually give me massive headaches. I might take a chance on it anyways.

LOVE the gray in this. I am normally not a big fan of gray at all, but this is such a pretty color!

Again, not very neutral, but tell me you don’t love that pink.

I have a huge thing for cameos lately, even though I’m totally unsure as to how well they would work with my outfits.

And this I KNOW I would never wear (nor is it a fascinator) but isn’t it pretty!

I cannot wait to get PAID on Friday. Ahem.

Just finished watching Doomsday. Barely average as far as storyline and etc. goes, but there was eye candy for sure, stylistically. I liked the juxtaposition of of the medieval-esque culture with the urban tribal punks (although Matt most definitely did not like the idea of the decline of mankind being shown as a bunch of punk rockers!). I almost couldn’t believe it was the same guy who did the Descent. I can see where he was going with it, I think he probably got a bit overwhelmed since he finally wasn’t working on a shoestring budget. And, in unrelated news, I got 10 Steps to Fashion Freedom - liking it so far. I’ll definitely post a full review once I finish.
